Why I Should Be An Alzheimer’s Advocate

“My name is Natalie Carroll and I am 9 years old and I live in Lynn Haven Florida. For the past 7 years, I have been living with my grandmother who had Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease and died 2 weeks ago.  She had it since her early 60’s and just turned 79.  It had been a struggle for me and my family to take care of her.  We moved from Pennsylvania to Florida to make it easier for my mom to take care of her. Before we moved to Florida my dad had a stroke and is now disabled on his right side.  Sometimes it felt like my grandmom thought I was a stranger.   At first it felt weird because she called me my mom’s name ”Mariellen”.   I felt sad inside.  But it made me want to help teach kids and their families and let them know they aren’t alone.  We need to find a cure  and prevent Alzheimer’s disease so that no one else has to go through this horrible disease.”
